TWAIN

Any application software using a TWAIN interface can access any imaging hardware which runs with a TWAIN driver. The Imaging Source Company offers a free TWAIN driver for DirectX.

Therefore a TWAIN based application software can also access any image source (as FireWire cameras, Video-to-FireWire converters, frame grabbers etc.) under Windows 2000 and Windows XP as long as it is compatible to DirectX.
