Connecting FireWire Cameras To The Internet

Due to their poor image quality, commercial web cameras can rarely be used for remote monitoring applications. FireWire cameras, on the other hand, offer high image quality, but unfortunately, not network (TCP/IP) access.

There are, however, a number of monitoring applications that could benefit from both high image quality and access over a TCP/IP network, such as
  • Quality control
  • Monitoring of industrial processes
  • Remote action
  • Telematics
  • Medical
  • Scientific visualization
