Low-Cost Frame Grabber

In our last newsletter, we concentrated on FireWire cameras. Although these cameras attract a lot of attention in the imaging community, they are by no means the death of frame grabbers:
  • The majority of cameras still output standard video signals
  • Other equipment, such as ultrasonic devices or fingerprint sensors output this format
  • The cabling is easy and inexpensive
  • The cables are can be much longer than those of FireWire devices.
Up to now, one of the most serious problems of frame grabbers was the use of proprietary drivers and software interfaces. Therefore, with the DFG/SCV1 The Imaging Source now offers a frame grabber which works in exactly the same, standardized environment as all FireWire devices discussed before - namely DirectX. And consistently, the DFG/SV1 is also shipped with the SDK IC Imaging Control Standard which offers:
  • Sample applications to acquire single images and image sequences
  • A programming interface based on an ActiveX and a C++ class library
  • Numerous programming samples as source code, to get you started
