USB Cameras

With the advent of USB 2.0, the most widely used computer interface is finally suitable for industrial applications. As industrial cameras output uncompressed video, they require a high bandwidth interface, such as is offered by USB 2.0. This interface offers two decisive advantages: a) every PC is equipped with one and b) it is very easy to use. The Imaging Source manufactures industrial USB cameras with CCD and CMOS sensors. All The Imaging Source industrial USB cameras ship with drivers, end-user software and an SDK.

The Imaging Source USB cameras ship with CCD and CMOS sensors

The USB 2.0 interface is a key factor for the simplification of machine vision applications. Therefore, The Imaging Source USB cameras are available with a wide range of image sensors:

The resolution of the CCD sensors ranges from 640x480 to 1280x960 pixels. All CCD cameras deploy highly sensitive and low noise sensors, which are based on a global shutter.

The CMOS sensors that are integrated in The Imaging Source USB cameras offer resolutions from 744x480 to 2048x1536 pixels. The main advantage of the CMOS sensors is their low price and minimal power consumption. The 744x480 sensor uses a global shutter, while all other sensors are based on a rolling shutter.

As with other industrial cameras, The Imaging Source USB cameras are optionally available with digital I/Os and trigger input. In trigger mode, the cameras capture an image as a result of an external pulse. Such a pulse is usually generated by an event of an industrial process.

M12x0.5 to CS Mount Adapter

Low cost board lenses for CS mount cameras

All USB cameras ship with robust industrial housing, a CS mount thread and a C mount adapter ring. With an optional adapter, it is also possible to use lenses that have an M12x0.5 thread. As such lenses do not cost very much, they can drastically reduce the overall price of the camera system.

Shipped Software & Drivers

USB cameras are shipped with various software components

All USB cameras ship with WDM drivers - thus making them directly compatible to DirectShow and DirectX - and drivers for TWAIN, LabVIEW®, HALCON, ActivVisionTools and the Matrox Imaging Library MIL.

Furthermore, All USB cameras ship with the end-user software IC Capture and the SDK IC Imaging Control.
