Setup IC Express for the capture session

In the options dialog IC Express is setup for the capture session. This contains:

The options are restored at next IC Express start.

Amount of cameras

Specify the number of video capture devices, from which images are to be captured. The maximum number of devices that can be used simultaneously depends only on the interface, i.e. USB or GigE and processor performance. The more devices are used, the more processor power is needed.

If too many video capture devices are used, bandwidth bottlenecks can occur, both at the interface and on the computer's PCI Express bus. In such a case, the frame rate of the cameras should be reduced, which also reduces the maximum recording speed.

Of certain camera models, e.g. DxK 23UP1300, cannot be triggered more than six to eight simultaneously. These cameras send too much data simultaneously, so the PCI Express bus is overloaded.

In addition, the number of cameras reduces the recording time, because memory must be reserved in the PC for each camera. The more cameras, the less memory per camera.

Picture Folder

Specifies the folder in which the images will be saved after shooting. The storage medium, i.e. the hard disk or USB stick, does not have to be particularly fast, because the images are first stored in the memory of the computer and then stored on the storage medium after the end of the recording. The storage process usually takes much longer than the recording.

Click the "Browse" button to choose or create a new directory for the images.

Capture Duration in seconds

The recording time determines how long a try should last. The recording time determines for how many images per camera memory is reserved.

How the memory reservation is made depends on the trigger modes described below.

Currently it is not possible to enter fractios of seconds, e.g. 0.5 seconds.

Device Running Mode

The running modes are triggered and free running. I the video capture devices, in particular cameras, must be synchronized, then the trigger modes are recommended. The cameras must support trigger modes.

Triggered by external trigger source
This option can be used only, if the used cameras have external trigger support. External triggers are provided by an external trigger hardware, that sends trigger pulses in the wanted capture speed. The trigger frequency should be below the camera's frame rate.
Triggered by software
This option can be used only, if the used cameras have trigger support. The trigger pulses are generated by IC Express. The trigger frequency is specified in the "Frequency" input filed and should be below the camera's frame rate.
Free Running
This options is used, if there is no trigger support by the camera or there is no need for synchronizing. The video capture device simply runs free. Capturing is started automatically after "Prepare Capture" was clicked in the main program

Memory usage

In case there are already video capture devices opened in IC Express, the Options dialog calculates the needed memory and checks, whether enough is availabe. If there is enough availbe, the memory usage is shown in green, otherwise in red.

A change of mount of cameras has no effect on the memory usage calculation, until the options dialog is closed with OK button and restarted. If the amount of cameras was increased, the new camera must have been opened and configured, before opening this dialog, in case a used memory configuraion is needed. Of course, the options dialog can be used, even if no camera is currently opened.
