Distributing your Applications using the Publish Wizard of Visual Studio 2008

This section describes how to distribute your applications using the publish wizard of Visual Studio 2008.

Run the Publish Wizard

Right-Click your project in the Solution Explorer, and select Publish... from the context menu. Follow the steps of the wizard and finish it.

Visual Studio will now publish your application to the selected location. However, the published files are not able to work an a production machine yet. The following steps show how to modify your project settings so that the published application can work on computers without IC Imaging Control or Visual Studio installed.

Add required IC Imaging Control files to the project

Select Project -> Add Existing Item from the main menu. Navigate to the installation folder of IC Imaging Control in C:\Program Files\Common Files\IC Imaging Control 3.4\bin\v2.0.50727\x86 and select the following files, if your project is built as x86:

  • TIS_UDSHL11.dll

If your application application is built as x64, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\IC Imaging Control 3.4\bin\v2.0.50727\x64 and select following files:

  • TIS_UDSHL11_x64.dll

Use the Add As Link command to add these files as links into your project.

Mark all these links in your Solution Explorer, right-click them and select Properties. In the Properties window, set Build Action to Content. This makes sure the publish wizard puts the files next to the program's executable.

Adjust publishing options

Right-Click your project in the Solution Explorer, and select Properties from the context menu. Activate the Publish tab.

Click the Application Files... button to show the Applications Files dialog. In the dialog, set the Publish Status of TIS.Imaging.ICImagingControl34.dll to Include. Press OK to close the dialog.

If you are using Visual Studio 2008, click the Prerequisites... button to show the Prerequisites dialog. IC Imaging Control 3.4 requires that you check Visual C++ Runtime Libraries (x86).

Testing the publishing process

Right-Click your project in the Solution Explorer, and select Properties from the context menu. Activate the Publish tab.

Press the Publish Now button.

Visual Studio should now compile your application and copy the published setup to the location you earlier specified in the Publish Wizard.

Use a computer without IC Imaging Control or Visual Studio installed and navigate to the publishing location. The setup should install all missing prerequisites and start the application.
